It sits directly between Research Triangle Park and RDU, it is one of the most internationally diverse municipalities in North Carolina, and its housing stock is overwhelmingly apartments and townhomes rather than the single-family subdivisions that define the rest of Wake County. Put those three facts together and you get a place where somebody is always moving in, moving out, or flipping a unit in between.
That is why the work here looks different from Cary or Apex. We are rarely emptying a two-car garage in Morrisville. Start with the correction most people searching this need: Morrisville is not the City of Raleigh. The $35 Bulky Load, the $70 special or appliance item and the free weekly electronics collection you have read about are City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services programs for City of Raleigh customers, reachable at 919-996-3245, and they do not serve a Morrisville address. Your colleague in North Raleigh can schedule one; you cannot. Morrisville households are served by the Town of Morrisville's own collection program with its own rules, limits and calendar — check morrisvillenc.gov or call the town, and do not plan around a Raleigh price you saw quoted online.
And then there is the bigger point, which is that Morrisville is an apartment town. Municipal curbside collection — anywhere in Wake County, under any town's program — is a service to residential curbside customers. An apartment or a multifamily community does not have a curb of its own; it has a private compactor or dumpster contract paid for by the property, and that contract covers bagged household trash. It does not cover a sofa, a mattress, a dresser or the contents of a unit at lease end. There is no municipal number you can call to have a couch taken off a third-floor landing in a Morrisville apartment community, because that service does not exist.
Which is why the dumpster shortcut backfires. Leaving furniture in or beside the trash enclosure is treated by properties as illegal dumping, and the standard response is to have it removed and bill the resident — or take it out of the departing tenant's deposit. That bill is regularly larger than what a proper carry-out would have cost, and it arrives after you have already moved out and cannot argue about it. The honest math is that the "free" option is the expensive one here.
Townhomes and the single-family pockets of 27560 have a bit more room to work with, and if your address is on the town's curbside program for a single item, use it — it is cheaper than us and we will tell you so. But it is a scheduled service, the piece has to already be at the street, and many Morrisville subdivisions are HOA-governed and unenthusiastic about a mattress sitting out front for three days. We come to the room it is in, on the day you need, and take it.
Relocation produces some of the best donation material in the Triangle — furniture that is only two years old, bought for an assignment and not worth shipping home. So donation comes first. The newer buildings have the opposite problem: rules.
