Being honest about the competition: Junk Doctors markets "same-day or it's free" and Dump Dawgs markets a two-to-four-hour response, so we're not the only fast option in the Triangle. The difference is when you learn the price. Both of those, like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and College HUNKS, quote the job once a truck and a crew are standing at your door. We quote it off a photo, before anyone leaves the yard.
No — and this is the honest reason a same-day service exists here at all. City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services does run a real bulky program, and it's cheap: a Bulky Load pickup costs $35 and a special or appliance item costs $70. Household electronics are collected free, but capped at four items per week, and tires aren't accepted at all. If your timeline is measured in weeks and you don't mind the lifting, that program is genuinely the cheapest answer and we'll tell you so.
But every one of those services is scheduled. You submit the request, you're given a collection day, and you wait for it. And every one of them is curbside-only: the city crew takes what is already at the street, which means you get the sleeper sofa down the stairs and out to the curb, and then it sits in front of your house until the assigned day arrives. Nothing about that works when the movers come Friday, when the buyer's walkthrough is tomorrow morning, or when you're in an HOA neighborhood in Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Wake Forest or Brier Creek where a mattress parked at the curb for four days is the exact thing the covenant letter is about. Same-day is the one thing a scheduled municipal program cannot sell you at any price — that's the gap we fill, and it's why we haul from the garage rather than the curb.
What we can't take, same day or any day: hazardous waste, wet paint, propane tanks, solvents, asbestos, ammunition or medical waste. Wake County runs household hazardous waste drop-off for those.
A fast pickup isn't an excuse for a lazy one. Anything clean and resellable is routed to donation first — Habitat ReStores run ten Triangle stores across Wake, Johnston, Durham and Orange counties, and Goodwill of Eastern NC is headquartered right here in Raleigh — so a decent sofa or dresser gets a second owner instead of a burial. North Carolina bans appliances, televisions, computers, whole tires and yard waste from landfills, so those are separated on the truck: white goods and metal go to scrap (Durham's transfer station takes appliances and metal for free), electronics go to a certified e-waste processor.
