How does pricing work?

Flat and photo-quoted before the truck rolls. Snap a photo and our system identifies and prices each item, and one number comes back in seconds — no walkthrough, no in-home estimate, no "we'll quote on arrival." That number includes the carry-out, the drive and the disposal, and it doesn't move when the crew sees the staircase. There's a $75 minimum order on any job, and North Carolina charges no sales tax on the service.

What do single items cost in Raleigh?

Each item has its own published flat price. The ones people ask about most:

The $75 minimum means one very small item still prices at $75. Two or three pieces going together are quoted as one job from a single photo. Full item pricing lives in the Raleigh cost guide.

What does a full cleanout cost?

A typical two-car garage clear-out lands between a half and a three-quarter truck. If your load is really just a few big identifiable pieces, we price it both ways and charge the lower one.

Does the City of Raleigh pick up bulk items?

Yes — for its own residential trash customers, and it's the cheapest thing on the board. Raleigh Solid Waste Services (919-996-3245) sells a scheduled Bulky Load curbside pickup for $35 and a special or appliance item pickup for $52, the second tier existing because North Carolina bans white goods from landfill disposal. The city also takes e-waste free, up to four items per week. It does not take tires.

Three limits decide whether it works for you. It's curbside-only — the truck collects what's sitting at your street, so a fridge in the garage, a sofa on the second floor or a treadmill in the bonus room is still entirely yours to move. It runs on the city's schedule, which is no help against a closing date or a lease deadline. And it covers City of Raleigh solid-waste customers only: Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs, Wake Forest, Garner, Durham and Chapel Hill aren't on it at all, which catches out plenty of people who found the $35 figure on Google. If you can carry it out yourself, can wait, and live inside the city — use the $35 program. We'd rather say that than sell you a haul you didn't need.

How do you compare to 1-800-GOT-JUNK, Junk Doctors and McJunk?

The real difference is when you learn the price. 1-800-GOT-JUNK and College HUNKS price by truck space and quote on site, once a crew has already driven out — so no number exists in advance, and you decide while two people wait in your driveway. Junk Doctors and McJunk deserve credit for publishing their tiers: Junk Doctors lists a $100 minimum and a $738 full truck; McJunk lists a $175 minimum and a $695 full truck, plus a $10–$37 trip charge, $30 per mattress, $10 per tire and $10 per CRT television.

Ours is a $75 minimum with $241–$732 truck tiers, but the model underneath is different: we price your load by item, from a photo, before anyone is dispatched, and we add no surcharges — a queen mattress is $103 whether it's the only thing in the truck or the fourth one in. Being straight about it: on a genuinely full truckload, Junk Doctors ($738) and McJunk ($695) publish lower numbers than our $895. On single items and small loads — which is most of what people search for — itemizing beats volume pricing outright, because you pay for the sofa rather than for the fraction of a truck the sofa happens to occupy. Is there NC sales tax on junk removal?

No. North Carolina doesn't tax the hauling service, so there's no sales tax line on your invoice and the flat quote is the price you pay. One thing occasionally mistaken for a tax: the $2 per ton state solid-waste excise sits inside the tip fee we pay at the landfill — it's a cost on our side of the transaction, not a sales tax we collect from you.

Worth knowing if you're weighing a dumpster instead: a roll-off or dumpster rental is taxable in North Carolina, because renting equipment isn't the same transaction as hauling. When a rental quote and a hauling quote look close on the sticker, the tax treatment quietly moves them apart — a fair reason to prefer hauling.

Do you offer same-day pickup?

Usually, when a crew and truck slot are open. Text a photo and we'll give you the soonest real window across Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Durham and Chapel Hill. The one genuinely tight stretch of the year is May, when NC State, Duke and UNC move-out all overlap — if you're near a campus that month, book a day or two ahead. See same-day removal.

Do I have to move things to the curb?

No — our crews carry it out from the garage, the bonus room, the attic, the crawl space or any floor. Triangle homes have no basements, so the heavy things end up upstairs over the garage or in the garage itself, and getting them out is most of the work on any given job. In the HOA suburbs — Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Wake Forest, Brier Creek — we load at the garage door so nothing sits visibly at the curb waiting on a scheduled truck, which is exactly how violation letters get written.

Can you provide a COI for my condo building?

Yes. Downtown, Glenwood South and North Hills buildings often ask for a certificate of insurance naming the management company as additional insured before they’ll release the freight elevator. We issue it ourselves — same day, no charge — and book the elevator window at the same time. Our coverage: General Liability $1M per occurrence · $2M aggregate; Umbrella/Excess $2M · $5M; Workers’ Compensation $1M each accident. Your building is added as additional insured, coverage is primary and non-contributory, and a waiver of subrogation applies.

What can't you take?

Hazardous materials. In practice that means paint and solvents, propane tanks, gasoline and other fuels, motor oil, pool chemicals, asbestos and medical waste — these need household hazardous-waste handling rather than a truck, and Wake County runs drop-off sites for them. Everything ordinary is fine: furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, exercise equipment, yard and construction debris, and general household junk. If you're unsure about something, send the photo — we'll tell you before you book, not after we arrive.

What happens to my stuff?

We route it rather than dump it, partly because North Carolina requires exactly that. The state bans computers and televisions, white goods and appliances, whole tires, yard trash and lead-acid batteries from landfill disposal — so electronics, metal and appliances go to recycling and scrap, and the Durham Waste Disposal & Recycling Center takes metal and appliances free of charge. Usable furniture and household goods go to Habitat ReStore Triangle (ten stores across Wake, Durham, Orange and Johnston) or to Goodwill of Eastern NC, which is headquartered right here in Raleigh. Genuine waste goes to the South Wake Landfill.

What areas do you serve?

Do I need to be home?

Not always. If everything is somewhere accessible — a garage you can leave open, a driveway, a back patio — send a photo showing exactly what goes and we can handle it while you're at work. For anything inside the house, or where there's a judgment call about what stays, someone should be there. Downtown, Glenwood South and North Hills condo buildings occasionally want a certificate of insurance or a booked freight-elevator window; tell us and we'll arrange it.
