Type "does the city pick up mattresses" from a Cary ZIP and you'll land on City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services and its $35 Bulky Load collection — and then discover, usually on collection morning, that none of it applies to you. Cary is its own municipality of more than 180,000 people, not a Raleigh neighborhood. Raleigh's Bulky Load, its $70 special/appliance pickup and its free weekly e-waste allowance are Raleigh-address services. A Cary resident scheduling around them is scheduling around the wrong program.
What Cary actually has is the Town of Cary's own scheduled curbside collection, run by the Town rather than the county or the City of Raleigh — check current bulky-item rules and how to request a pickup at townofcary.org, because they change. But the shape of it is the shape of every curbside program in America: it collects from the street. The mattress has to already be out there. You do the stairs, the hallway turn, the front door and the driveway, and then it waits.
And waiting is where Cary gets specifically expensive. This is one of the most covenant-heavy parts of the Triangle — Preston, Lochmere, Amberly, MacGregor West, Cary Park — and visible bulk at the curb is precisely what those HOA rules exist to stop.
