The short answer
Hot Tub / Spa — $390. Hot Tub / Spa, 6-8 Person — $501. Those are flat, published prices that include the disassembly, the carry and the disposal. There is no separate charge for the deck, the gate, the slope of your back yard or the fact that it is full of water you forgot to drain.
Most of the work on a Wake County hot tub is not the tub, it is the route. A spa that went in as a crane lift over a fence in 2009 is coming out in pieces through a four-foot gate, and that is the job you are actually paying for.
Why hot tubs are their own category
A hot tub is an acrylic shell, a thick foam-insulated cabinet, a steel or timber frame, a pump pack, and a cover that has absorbed several years of Piedmont rain. Empty, it is heavy. Waterlogged — and after a decade of humid Raleigh summers most of them are — the foam adds serious weight on its own.
Nothing about that goes in a roll-out cart, and municipal bulky collection across the metro is not designed for it. It is a cut-down-and-carry job, which is why it is priced as one item rather than by volume.
What we actually do
Power is disconnected at the spa panel first. Water gets drained — allow for that in advance, because a full tub takes a while and Wake County back yards do not always drain anywhere useful. Then the cabinet comes off, the shell is cut into panels that fit your gate, the pump pack comes out separately, and everything goes through the side yard and into the truck.
The cover usually accounts for a surprising amount of the weight. Anything dripping gets wrapped before it crosses a deck or a screened porch, because a wet foam panel dragged over painted decking leaves a mark you will be looking at for years.
The Wake County deck problem
The standard configuration around here is a two-story house in Cary, Apex, Holly Springs or Wake Forest with a raised rear deck, because the lots slope and the houses sit on crawlspaces rather than basements. The tub is on the deck. The deck is five or six feet above grade. The only way out is down the deck stairs, which are narrower than the tub.
Screened porches are the other common one. A spa installed inside a screened porch has to come out through a screen bay or a door that was never sized for it, and that means more cutting, not a bigger price. Same with a tub sunk into a deck surround — the surround comes off first.
Gates, fences and the side yard
Wake County subdivisions are built close together, and the side yard between houses is often the only route from the back to the driveway. Measure the narrowest point of it and the gate opening before you book. We will cut to fit whatever that number is, but knowing it in advance means the crew brings the right saw and one trip is enough.
If your HOA has rules about fence panels being removed, or about what may sit on a driveway and for how long, factor that in too. Most Cary and Apex covenants are specific about anything visible from the street, which is an argument for the debris going straight onto the truck rather than into a pile that waits.
What else usually goes at the same time
A hot tub almost never leaves alone. The deck around it has usually collected a decade of outdoor furniture, and it is the same visit.
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Hot Tub / Spa | $390 |
| Hot Tub / Spa — 6-8 Person | $501 |
| Patio Table | $89 |
| Patio Chair (Each) | $30 |
| Patio Umbrella + Base | $53 |
| Outdoor Lounge Chair | $61 |
| Propane Grill | $71 |
| Fire Pit | $56 |
A 6-8 person spa plus the patio table and umbrella that lived beside it is $501 + $89 + $53 = $643. If the shed behind it is also going, Storage Shed (Small, Disassembled) is $186, which makes that visit $501 + $186 = $687.
Pollen, humidity and why the covers fail
Two Raleigh seasons are hard on spas. Pine pollen in late March and April coats every horizontal surface in the Triangle, including the cover, and it gets into the water every time the lid comes off. Then the humidity runs high from May through September, which is what waterlogs a foam cover and eventually the cabinet insulation.
The practical result is that a lot of Wake County hot tubs stop being used years before they get removed. If yours has not been filled since before the last pollen season, you are heating nothing and maintaining a large object — that is usually the point at which people call.
Booking it
Drain it if you can. Measure the gate. Tell us whether it is on a deck, on a slab or inside a screened porch, and send a photo of the route from the tub to the driveway. You get the flat price back before anyone is dispatched, and it does not change on the day.
Frequently asked questions
How much does hot tub removal cost in Raleigh?
$390 for a standard hot tub or spa, $501 for a 6-8 person model. Both prices include disconnecting at the panel, cutting the shell down to fit your gate, carrying it out and disposing of it. There is no extra charge for a raised deck or a narrow side yard.
Do I have to drain it first?
It helps a lot, and it is worth starting the day before — a full spa takes hours to empty and Wake County back yards do not always drain anywhere convenient. If it is still partly full when we arrive, we deal with it; the price does not change.
My tub is on a second-story deck. Does that cost more?
No. Raised rear decks are the normal configuration in Cary, Apex and Holly Springs, because the houses sit on crawlspaces and the lots slope. Getting the panels down the deck stairs is part of the job, not an add-on.
What if it will not fit through the gate?
It will not, in most cases, and that is expected. The shell gets cut into panels sized to the narrowest point of your route. Measure that gap and tell us when you book so the crew arrives with the right kit.
Can you take the deck furniture at the same time?
Yes, and it is the same visit. A patio table is $89, a patio umbrella and base is $53, a propane grill is $71, an outdoor lounge chair is $61. A 6-8 person spa plus a patio table comes to $501 + $89 = $590.
