The short answer

A charity shop, a scrap collector or a neighbour on a local giveaway group will sometimes take furniture at no charge in Raleigh. Every one of those routes comes with conditions: the piece has to be in resale condition, it has to be waiting somewhere they can reach it, and you have to fit their schedule rather than yours. When the piece qualifies and you have time to spare, that is a good outcome.

When it does not — and for a worn sofa, a stained mattress, anything upstairs, or anything you need gone this week — JunkRabbit removes it from wherever it stands for a flat price starting at $75. Sofa $126. Queen mattress $103. Dresser $148. No stair charge, no charge for the walk to the truck, disposal included.

Why free collection often falls through

It is worth knowing before you spend a fortnight arranging it. Free collection is collection from an accessible point — a kerb, a porch, a garage with the door open. Getting a three-seat sofa from a first-floor bedroom to that point is the actual work, and no free service does it. Add a condition check that is stricter than people expect, plus a pickup slot that may be weeks out, and the free route quietly turns into a project.

What we do instead

We come to the room the thing is in, carry it out ourselves, and take it away on a date you choose. Two people, the right kit, and a price agreed before we set off. If your piece is genuinely in good condition we are glad if a charity takes it — and if it is not, or you would rather it was simply gone, that is what we are for.

Clearing more than one piece

If a whole room or a whole house is going, a share of the truck works out better than listing items: $241 for a quarter load, $431 for a half, and $732 for a full sixteen-yard truck. Tell us roughly how much there is and we will tell you which size fits.

No surcharges in Raleigh

Upstairs costs nothing extra. A long carry down a driveway costs nothing extra. Your neighbourhood makes no difference, and booking for tomorrow rather than next month makes no difference either. The quote you agree is the amount you pay.

What we take

Sofas, mattresses, bed frames, dressers, tables, chairs, desks, bookcases, rugs, patio furniture and the odd item that has been in the garage since you moved in. Condition is irrelevant to us — broken, stained and dated all cost the same as pristine, because we are pricing the space it takes on the truck.

How quickly can you come?

Often the same day, and next-day is routine. There is no premium for booking at short notice, so if the room needs to be clear before a viewing, a move or a delivery, say so and we will work to the date.

Getting your price takes about a minute

Describe what is going in ordinary words — "a sofa and an armchair from the front room" is plenty. You get a firm figure straight away, with no site visit and no waiting around for an estimator.

Where we cover

Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Durham, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Garner, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Morrisville, Knightdale and the rest of the Triangle.

Cheat sheet

The piece is genuinely good and you are not in a hurry

Try a charity or a giveaway group first — just check they collect from inside, and expect a wait.

It is worn, stained or broken

Free routes will decline it. We take it as it is, from $75.

It is upstairs or in a basement

That is the part free collection does not cover. We carry it out at no extra charge.

You need it gone this week

Book us — same-day and next-day are normal, with no rush fee.

There is a whole room of it

Take a truck share: $241 for a quarter, $431 for a half, $732 for a full load.

You just want the number

Sofa $126, queen mattress $103, dresser $148, $75 minimum, disposal included.

The bottom line

Free works when the piece is good, reachable and you can wait. We work every other time. Flat prices from $75, carried out of any room in the house, on the date you pick, with the stairs and the disposal already in the price.

Frequently asked questions

who picks up furniture for free in raleigh

Charity shops, scrap collectors and neighbours on local giveaway groups will sometimes take furniture at no charge. Each has conditions: the piece usually has to be in resale condition, it has to be waiting somewhere they can collect from such as a kerb, porch or open garage, and you fit their schedule. They do not carry furniture out of a bedroom or a basement. If your piece is sound and you have time, it is worth a try. If not, JunkRabbit removes it from wherever it stands from $75.

how much does it cost to remove a couch in raleigh

$126 for a standard sofa in Raleigh, carried out from any room and disposed of, with no extra charge for stairs or the walk to the truck. A loveseat is $119 and a two-piece sectional is $141. The minimum booking is $75. If a whole room is going, a quarter truck load is $241 and a half is $431.

Will a charity collect furniture that is stained or broken?

Generally not - donation routes need the piece to be resaleable, and upholstery in poor condition is the most common refusal. That is not a problem for us. Condition makes no difference to our price, because we quote on the space something takes on the truck rather than on what it is worth. Broken, stained and dated cost exactly the same as pristine.

Do you charge extra to carry furniture down stairs?

No. Floor level costs nothing extra in Raleigh, and neither does the distance from your door to where the truck parks. A sofa from a second-floor bedroom is the same $126 as one already sitting in the garage. Mention the stairs when you book so we send the right crew - it changes our plan, not your price.

How fast can you pick up furniture in Raleigh?

Same-day is often available and next-day is routine, with no premium for booking at short notice. If you need a room clear before a viewing, a move or a delivery, tell us the date and we will work to it.
